Energy Star is an international program created by the US Government in 1992. Home appliances that carry the Energy Star logo can save the consumer an average of 25% off their normal energy use. The specifications required to receive an Energy Star rating differ depending on the product but Energy Star compliant products can be found for most kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers and air conditioners.
